What changes fast
Profile accuracy, categories, hours, photos and review volume all feed the map results and can shift within a week or two.
So does fixing an obvious technical problem — a site that was blocked from search, or a page with no title.
What takes months
Ranking for "plumber in Hamilton" against businesses with ten years of reviews and links. That's a compounding game: relevant pages, steady reviews, mentions from local sources.
How to tell if it's working before rankings move
Watch calls, direction requests and form submissions, not position numbers. A jump in profile views or a first enquiry from a new town is real progress even if you're still on page two.
If nothing at all has changed in six months, ask exactly what was done. "Ongoing optimisation" is not an answer.
