Answers · Getting found locally

Why is my website not showing up on Google?

The short answer

Usually one of four things: the site is too new or blocked from being indexed, it has no Google Business Profile attached to it, the pages don't mention the town and service people search for, or you're checking while signed in and seeing personalised results.

Check the easy explanations first

Search your exact business name in a private window. If you appear, you are indexed and the real issue is ranking for services, not visibility.

Search site:yourdomain.ca — if nothing comes back, Google hasn't indexed the site at all. New sites can take a few days to a few weeks.

Local results are a separate system

The map pack is driven by your Google Business Profile: a verified address or service area, correct category, hours, photos and reviews. A perfect website with no profile will lose to a mediocre one that has it.

Make sure the name, address and phone number on your profile match your website exactly, character for character.

If you're indexed but never appear for services

Your pages probably don't say the words people search. "We offer comprehensive solutions" ranks for nothing. "Emergency furnace repair in Kitchener" is a real search.

Pick the three searches you'd want to win, then make sure each has a page that genuinely answers it.
