What should be on a small business home page?
The short answer
In this order: what you do and where you do it, one obvious way to contact you, proof you're real, and your prices or price range. Everything else is optional.
The first screen
Someone should know within three seconds what you sell and whether you serve their town. A headline like "Licensed electricians in Barrie and Simcoe County" does more work than any slogan.
Put a phone number or booking button in the same screen. On a phone, tapping to call is the most common action on a small business site.
Proof, not adjectives
"Trusted" and "quality" are invisible to readers. Licence numbers, years in business, a real address, your Google review count, photos of actual jobs, and named staff all do the convincing.
Never publish testimonials or numbers you can't back up. One real review beats five written ones.
Prices
Publishing a starting price or a range filters out enquiries you don't want and raises the ones you do. If you can't post exact prices, post how pricing works — hourly rate, call-out fee, or a typical project range.
